Abayomi A. Alawode, Nigeria

Head of Islamic Finance at The World Bank



Abayomi Alawode joined the World Bank in 1997 and is currently Practice Manager for the Bank’s Financial Systems Global Practice. Previously, he was a Lead Financial Sector Specialist in the East Asia and Pacific Region of the Bank and also served as Adviser, Financial Stability at the Central Bank of Bahrain from 2006 to 2010. Abayomi holds an M.Sc in Economics from the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Nigeria and an M. Phil in Development Studies from the University of Cambridge. He is the author of several academic papers on monetary and financial sector issues in Africa.
